Qajar Feast

Graphic artist and textile designer Mehdi Sarookhani has prepared a ‘Qajar Feast’ at Idea Art Gallery.

Running through May 24, the exhibit features a series of collage arts showing manipulated photos of people from the Qajar era (1786-1925) in an unlikely contemporary context, according to Gallery Info website.

“Placing people out of their original settings has always been one of my preoccupations … This led to creation of the present collection,” Sarookhani said.

The artist has chosen a hectic luxurious environment to represent contemporary times, and the superimposed Qajar characters are intentionally incongruous with their background. “Maybe like us, they too were prisoners of a time and space they didn’t choose to be in,” Sarookhani wrote in a statement.

Idea Gallery is located at No. 26, Street 18, Qaem-Maqam Street, 7-Tir Square.
