Underway at Mehregan Theater House is the play “Land of the Empty Heads” directed by Rouzbeh Akhtari.
The play is a loose adaptation of “Fools” a comic fable by American playwright Neil Simon.
Simon’s play is set in a small village named Kulyenchikov, Ukraine (Russian Territory), during the late 19th century.
The story follows Leon Steponovich Tolchinsky, a schoolteacher who takes a new job educating Sophia, the daughter of Dr. Zubritsky and his wife, Lenya. Leon soon learns that there is a curse on the village that makes everyone stupid, but complications ensue when Leon falls in love with his pupil.
The play allegedly was written as a result of an agreement Simon made with his wife during their divorce proceedings. She was promised the profits of Simon’s next play, so he attempted to write something that would never last on Broadway.
Babak Qaderi, Nastaran Ebrahimzadeh, Zakieh Seyf, Mohammad Azizi, Maziar Mehregan, Shahram Hayati, Danial Chavoushi and Amirhossein Zamani act in the play along with Akhtari, Tiwall.com wrote.
Located at No. 5, 1st Dead-end, Khark Street on Enqelab Avenue, the venue will host the performance through June 21.
