Farhadi’s Spanish Thriller at Munich Int’l Film Festival

Asghar Farhadi’s Spanish psychological thriller “Everybody Knows” is to be screened at the Munich International Film Festival, June 28-July 7.

Starring Spanish couple Penelope Cruz and Javiar Bardem and Argentinean actor Ricardo Darin, the kidnap thriller follows Laura who travels from Argentina to her home village in Spain with her two children for her sister’s wedding.

As her extended family celebrates there is a power failure and Laura’s 16-year-old daughter goes missing and a ransom note appears.

Under pressure, family secrets and community tensions emerge. The family, its ties and the moral choices imposed on them lie at the heart of the plot.

The movie is scheduled to have two screenings at the German event:  July 1 and July 3.

Established in 1983, the Munich festival is the largest summer film festival in Germany and second in size and importance to the Berlinale with over 80,000 admissions every year.

This year’s event will pay tribute to British actress and director Emma Thompson and American-born British screenwriter, film director, animator and actor Terry Gilliam.
