Iranian short films are participating in the third edition of the Kashmir World Film Festival, June 19-25, in Srinagar, the largest city of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Produced by Iranian Youth Cinema Society, “It Rains Slowly” by Saeed Nejati, “Gray Umbrella” by Mohammad Poustindouz, and “Forouzan” by Mir Abbas Khosravinejad will compete with films from 20 countries, IRNA reported on its Persian website.
It Rains Slowly, set in Turkey just before the 1980 coup d’état, narrates the story of a teacher who teaches his students about freedom and how to resist oppression and injustice. The movie won the Best Film Prize at Nepal’s Human Rights Film Fest.
Poustindouz’s fifth film Gray Umbrella is the story of Mr. Maleki who is engrossed in his routine monotonous life until a man with an umbrella enters his life.
It is a literary adaptation of the Argentinean writer Fernando Sorrentino’s “There’s a Man in the Habit of Hitting Me on the Head with an Umbrella”.
The film has been screened in several international film festivals such as Corti a Ponte Short Film Festival in Italy.
Forouzan centers on a widow with two children living in a village in central Iran. She tries to protect her herd from robbery in the night. The film won the award for best drama at the Astoria NY Film Festival and is slated to compete in the Los Angeles Diversity Film Festival, on July 26-28.
Kashmir World Film Festival was founded by the Actors’ Creative Theater, as part of an endeavor to catalyze a vibrant documentary, short film and feature film movement.
It is committed to bring the best of the world’s films to Kashmir and provide a platform for talented domestic and international filmmakers to showcase their works. This year’s festival includes interaction with directors, actors, filmmaking workshops and seminars.
