E1 Art Gallery in Tehran is to hold a group exhibition curated by veteran visual artist Fereydoun Ave in collaboration with Dastan Art Gallery.
Titled ‘Black and White’, the event is slated for April 20-May 4. Artworks of different media including paintings, photos and sculptures, all in black and white will be on show.
The works belong to Ave’s personal collection that includes works of more than twenty artists including Andy Warhol (1928-1987), an American artist who was a leading figure in the visual art movement known as Pop Art, which presented a challenge to traditions of fine art by including imagery from popular and mass culture, such as advertising, comic books and mundane cultural objects.
Also on view will go photos of late Iranian auteur, poet and photographer Abbas Kiarostami (1940-2016), ISNA reported on its Persian website.
Although Kiarostami is mostly known for his films, he began his artistic career first by doing paintings and taking photos before taking on filmmaking. One of his well-known photo series is a collection of over 30 photographs, mostly of snow landscapes, taken in his hometown in Tehran, between 1978 and 2003.
Sadeq Tir-Afkan, Sahand Hesamian, Ali Shayesteh, Nikzad Nojoumi, Farhad Moshiri, Kourosh Shishegaran, Mahsa Tehrani, Narges Hashemi and Ave himself are among the artists whose works will be on display during the two-week event. E1 Gallery is located at No. 1, Hamid Alley, Lesani Avenue, Jebheh Street, Mahdieh Street.
