Neo-Folk Songs

Celebrated Lurish composer, singer, songwriter and author Iraj Rahmanpour will perform on April 27.

Vahdat Hall will host Rahmanpour who will lead an ensemble of traditional instrumentalists performing a number of neo-folkloric pieces, sung in two dialects of Luri and Lak, spoken by two major ethnic groups in Lorestan, Lur and Lak, according to the Persian website of Honaronline. Repertoire of the concert includes some of Rahmanpour’s golden oldies along with a number of his new compositions.

Shahab Khaksar plays tonbak, Saeed Salehi is on tar, Mohsen Kayhan-Nejad plays sorna, Amir Abdipour beats the duhul, Ahmad Ranjbar plays santur and keyboard is played by Amir Koushe and Hossein Qanbari. Rahmanpour has long searched for lost and forgotten songs and ancient rhymes. The ones he finds he incorporates in his songs.
