Charity Cartoon Exhibit on Falling Sick Opens

Behnam Daheshpour Art Gallery in Tehran, affiliated to a namesake charity organization, launched an exhibition containing works of popular cartoonist Bozorgmehr Hosseinpour on April 27.

Titled “Lessons on How to Get Sick in 12 Sessions (Guaranteed)”, the works on display are cartoons warning people of the things that expose them to health risks. Two months earlier, Hosseinpour had displayed the same collection at Seyhoun Art Gallery in Tehran, which was greatly welcomed by art enthusiasts, Honaronline reported.

A written text accompanies all the cartoons. As a result of Hosseinpour’s humorous style, the messages are expressed in sarcastic wordings; for example, one says: “Try to expose yourself to fumes, particularly exhaust pipes!”

Behnam Daheshpour Organization is a Tehran-based NGO that helps cancer patients. Proceeds from selling the artworks will be spent on the treatment of individuals suffering from cancer.

Hosseinpour, 42, holds a painting degree from the Islamic Azad University of Tehran. He has worked as a media caricaturist since 1990 in publications, including Gol-Agha, Kayhan Caricature, Chelcheragh, Soroush-e Nojavan and Roshd-e Nojavan magazines, as well as Zan, Norouz, Aftabgardan and Eqbal newspapers.

The venue, located at No. 13, Masjedi Alley, Jabbarian Street on Lavasani Street, will have the works on show through May 1.
