“Under the Smoky Roof” directed by celebrated filmmaker Pouran Derakhshandeh has received five nominations at the Nice International Filmmaker Festival in France, May 5-12.
Best supporting actor (Shahram Haqiqat-Doust), best supporting actress (Azita Hajian), best cinematography (Masoud Salami), as well as best original screenplay and best director for Derakhshandeh, are the five nominations received by the movie, Mehr News Agency reported.
The family drama, starring Farhad Aslani and Merila Zarei in leading roles, deals with the social and emotional dilemma of divorce in Iranian culture.
In the movie, Shirin has problems with her husband and the young son is struggling to communicate with them, which leads to a crisis.
One thing that remains consistent from the start to the end is that the film does not take sides; it shows that there is always more than one side to a story and that sometimes in life, there are no winners.
Behnoush Tabatabaei, Nafiseh Roshan, Hesam Navab-Safavi, Houshang Tavakoli, Maryam Boubani, Hadi Marzban and Fariba Motekhasses are other members of the cast.
