The Greek tragedy by Sophocles (497-406 BC) Antigone went on stage at Iranshahr Theater on May 6.
Saber Abar performs the play alongside Naval Sharifi and French actress Nathalie Matti, Honaronline reported.
The play, directed by Ali Razi, is part of ‘Theban Plays’ trilogy written in 442 BC by Greek playwright Sophocles.
It is about the aftermath of a civil war in which the two sons of King Oedipus, Eteocles and Polyneices, kill each other, and the new king, their successor Creon, tries to punish Polyneices for his disloyalty by not burying him properly. However, Antigone, daughter of Oedipus, buries the corpse of his brother Polyneices.
Abar will play the role of Creon and his son Haemon. The actor has acted in leading roles in classical plays, namely Hamlet, Caligula and Richard III.
Matti is famous for her role in the Iranian TV series “Zero Degree Turn” directed by Hassan Fat’hi. She previously appeared in several short films.
Sharifi has also acted in plays and movies. She is a member of ‘My Road’ theater company in France, and has performed in Europe over the past decade, including a collaboration with Razi, director of Antigone, at Burgundy National Theater Festival.
