Discussion on Sanaei’s Walled Garden of Truth

Beheshti branch of Book City in Tehran will be hosting two discussions to study the different features of “The Hadiqat al Haqiqa” (Walled Garden of Truth), mystical poetry book of Persian poet Hakim Sanaei Ghaznavi (1080-1131). The sessions, to be chaired by Maryam Hosseini, a professor of literature at Tehran’s Alzahra University, are scheduled for May 9 and 16 at the venue located at 3rd Alley, Bucharest Street, Beheshti Avenue, ISNA reported on its Persian website.  Abul-Majd Majdud ibn Adam Sanai Ghaznavi served Bahram-Shah of Ghazni (1084-1157), sultan of the Ghaznavid Empire, as a court poet, spending years praising the king and his court. But later he changed course and was devoted to God and abruptly left the court. Sanaei is famed especially because of his homiletic poetry as well as his correspondence which is a body of mystical literature. He wrote enormously on mystical subjects, of which the Walled Garden of Truth is his masterwork. The work expresses the poet’s perceptions about God, love, philosophy and reason.
