Moscow’s Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest, for young photojournalists aged between 18 and 33 years old, has announced the shortlist for its 2018 contest that includes photos by three Iranian photographers.
The jury from major international news agencies such as AFP (France), Anadolu Ajansi (Turkey) and Notimex (Mexico) as well as outstanding photographers and photo editors known around the world, selected the best works from 6,000 entries.
Works in the shortlist are from 14 countries, namely Russia, Iran, India, Egypt, Germany, Italy and Spain among others, the event’s website, Stenincontest.com, reported.
Photos of Omid Vahabzadeh, showing scenes from the terrorist attacks in Tehran last year, are in both the single photo and series categories of the shortlist.
On June 7, Tehran was hit by two simultaneous terrorist attacks targeting the Majlis and the mausoleum of Imam Khomeini in the south of the city that left 12 people dead and 42 wounded. The IS terror outfit claimed responsibility for the attacks.
Shiva Khademi’s single photo of twin brothers and Younes Khani’s photo series from last year’s Kermanshah earthquake are also shortlisted.
A 7.3-magnitude quake shook the western province of Kermanshah and the regions bordering Iraq last November. It cut short the lives of over 500 people, injured thousands, and left large numbers homeless, many of whom are still living in temporary shelters.
List of winners will be announced on August 6 after being put to an online vote from June 1- July 18. The award ceremony will take place in September followed by an exhibition of the winning works in Moscow.
