The National Library in Tehran will hold a meeting titled “Presence of Hafez” on June 19. Discussions will focus on the various aspects of the recently released book “Encyclopedia of Hafez and Hafezology”. Published by the Tehran-based Nokhostan-e Parsi Art and Cultural Institute, the four-volume encyclopedia is the outcome of collaboration of over 150 scholars and researchers. The session will be held in the presence of author and researcher Baha al-Din Khorramshahi, researcher Mehrdad Niknam, and writer and editor Farhad Taheri, IBNA reported on its Persian website. Khwaja Shams al-Din Mohammad Hafez-e Shirazi (1325–1389) was born and grew up in Shiraz. He memorized the holy Qur’an at an early age which earned him the nickname “Hafez” (meaning memorizer). Divan-e Hafez, the collection of his poems, is regarded as a pinnacle of Persian literature. His strong influence on the lives of Persian speakers can be found in the frequent use of his poems in Persian traditional music, visual arts and Persian calligraphy and many of his poems are used as proverbs or sayings. His numerous ghazals are mostly about love and spirituality.
