Autobiographical novella “Quiet Days in Clichy” written by the American writer Henry Miller is available in Persian.
The tender and nostalgic work is a spectacle of love, art and Bohemian life at a time when the world was simpler and slower. The book recounts the story of Miller’s experience as an American expatriate, an obscure, penniless young writer in Paris in the 1930’s and his friendship with the Austrian writer Alfred Perles.
Translated by Farid Qadimi, the book is published by Tehran-based Ejazz publication, ISNA reported on its Persian website.
First published in France in 1956, like most of Miller’s works, the book was published in 1965 in the US after Miller’s victory in a trial of his controversial novel “Tropic of Cancer”.
Two films have been made based on the novel. A Danish adaption of the book was released in 1970, written and directed by Jens Jørgen Thorsen and a French adaptation was produced in 1990, directed by Claude Chabrol.
Henry Valentine Miller (1891-1980) was known for crossing literary forms and frontiers and creating a new autobiographical novel that blended character study, social criticism, philosophical reflection, sexually explicit material, surrealism and mysticism.
