Emotional Involvement in 101 Portraits

Backstage photographer and actress Gelareh Kiazand has put on display a series of portraits she took from  shots in Kiarostami’s drama film “Shirin.”

A total of 101 black-and-white portraits taken from a group of celebrated actresses are on view at Saless Art Gallery, Honaronline reported on its Persian website.

Shirin, a 2008 film by late filmmaker, photographer and producer Abbas Kiarostami (1940-2016) shows faces of many notable Iranian heroines as well as Juliette Binoche, the renowned French actress, as they are sitting in an auditorium, watching a film based on the old Iranian tragic romance “Khosrow & Shirin”. A total of 114 actresses are shown in the film.

The film depicts the audience’s emotional involvement with the story. Emotions can also be seen in Kiazand’s photos. 

Photos of the women include those of actresses Mahnaz Afshar, Pegah Ahangarani, Taraneh Alidousti, Kamand Amir-Soleymani, Khatereh Asadi, Vishka Asayesh, Pantea Bahram, Pouri Banaee, Afsaneh Baygan, Shaqayeq Dehqan, Sahar Dowlatshahi, Setareh Eskandari, Ateneh Faqih-Nassiri, Shaqayeq Farahani, Soraya Qasemi, Marjaneh Golchin and Leila Hatami.
