A collection of short stories “The Thunder” written by the celebrated Syrian author Zakaria Tamer has been translated into Persian.
The book is translated by writer and translator Gholamreza Emami and published by Morvarid Publication, ISNA reported on its Persian website.
Originally published in Arabic in 1970, it includes 18 short stories.
Tamer, 87, is considered a master of Arabic-language short story. His short stories are often reminiscent of folktales and renowned for their simple language and including many potential references.
As a matter of orientation and approach, his writing is blunt with a surrealistic protest against political and social oppression and tyranny.
Tamer is one of the most important and widely read and translated short story writers in the Arab world and an authority in children’s stories in Arabic.
He also works as a freelance journalist, writing satirical columns in newspapers and currently lives in Oxford. In 2009, he won the Blue Metropolis Montreal International Literary prize.
