The different version of the romantic novel “Penelope at War,” written by Italian journalist and author Oriana Fallaci is translated to Persian.
It has been translated by Fereshteh Akbarpour and published by Negah Publication, Mehr News Agency reported on its Persian website.
Fallaci’s first novel, published in 1962, draws on an epic character from Homer’s Odyssey, Penelope, known for her fidelity to her husband, and set her in the modern world.
In the Odyssey, Penelope is the wife of Odysseus. She is known for her fidelity to Odysseus while he was absent and fighting in the Trojan War. Her name has traditionally been associated with fidelity, duty and devotion.
However, contrary to the ancient story, in Fallaci’s novel, readers meet a modern Penelope, an Italian scriptwriter, who, instead of sitting demurely at home with her loom, leaves her faithful Francesco to find her fortunes in New York.
Oriana Fallaci (1929-2006) was a prominent Italian journalist and author. A partisan during World War II, she had a long and successful journalistic career. Fallaci became famous worldwide for her coverage of war and conflict zones and her interviews with world leaders during the 1960s, 70s and 80s.
