Graphic Novel ‘Jamshid’ in English Soon

Markosia, a British comic book publishing company, will soon release the English version of the 4-volume Persian graphic novel “Jamshid,” written by Ashkan Rahgozar.

Based in London, Markosia will release the book in English speaking countries, namely the US, UK and Australia, and also  upload its digital version on several online websites, including Amazon, Mehr News Agency reported.

In Iran, the Persian version of graphic novel Jamshid has been released by Hooraksh Publication, affiliated to a namesake animation studio.

The series are based on tales in Shahnameh (Book of Kings), the epic poem written by celebrated Persian poet Ferdowsi (940-1020). The story of Rahgozar’s novel deals with the decline of the kingdom of Jamshid, a Shahnameh character.

Hooraksh Studio, founded in 2005, has also made a 2D animation “The Last Fiction,” which is an open interpretation of the story of Zahhak, one of the central tales of Ferdowsi’s Shahnameh.

Chronologically, the events of the 4-volume book are a follow-up to the events of the animation whose story depicts the reign of Jamshid when he decides to mobilize his army to destroy the devil and his minions once and for all.

Jamshid, together with an army of his finest soldiers, sets out for the northern lands never to return. Meanwhile, a villain named Zahhak rises to power and brings darkness to his land.

The studio has been involved in the project since 2010. In the course of making the animation, in 2013, the work got international recognition and was presented as one of the six best ongoing projects at the Annecy Festival in France (the main annual event in the world of animation).

In 2016 it was acclaimed as one of the four best animated films in the world and was invited by Annecy and Cannes to the Marché du Film event.
