The automotive industry is the second most active industrial sector in Iran after oil and gas. Based on data released by the Ministry of Industries, during the first eight months of the current fiscal (March 20-Nov.21), the sector registered 16.6% year-on-year growth.
Several foreign auto companies are active in Iran through joint ventures with local firms. The biggest share of the market is held by the French-derived cars manufactured/assembled in Iran, followed by locally-designed vehicles and Chinese-derived cars.
More than half a dozen Chinese brands are also present in the saturated car market, albeit in miniscule numbers. It is for this reason none are shown by name in the following infographic.
