The Interior Ministry has tasked all governor generals, particularly that of Tehran Province, to enact regulations on saving water and electricity in all state organizations.
“All executive bodies must be instructed to reduce their water and electricity consumption by 20% and 10% respectively compared with the corresponding periods of last year,” said Salman Samani, the ministry’s spokesperson, the Energy Ministry’s news portal reported. The official added that governor generals will be given full authority to enforce the plan.
“Upon the failure to control consumption, governor generals will be authorized to cut the offices’ water and electricity supplies,” he said.
Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli especially instructed the governor general of Tehran to initiate the scheme from the ministry and the governorate’s buildings.
Tehran’s Governor General Mohammad Hossein Moqimi has tasked all state offices to submit a report of their consumption every 15 days and turn off the cooling systems at 1:30 p.m., Zist Online reported.
The measures are in keeping with the president’s recent statement that the habit of conserving resources should start in the government first.
