Iran Athletics Federation has announced the names of participants in the 8th Asian Indoor Athletics Championships to be held February 1-3 in Tehran.
After an evaluation meeting of federation officials on Sunday, the names of male athletes was released, Varzesh3 reported.
Based on the list, Hassan Taftian, Reza Qasemi and Mohammad Cheshmeh-Zar will run on the 60-meter track. Milad Sayyar, Amin Barzi and Ahmad-Reza Khanfari are participants in the 60m hurdles.
In the 400m dash, Sajjad Hashemi-Ahangari, Ali Khadivar and Reza Kashef will run. In the 800-meter middle distance category Amir Moradi, Pezhman Yarvali and Hamid Tashakkori will test their mettle.
In the longer distances Amir Moradi will compete in the 1500 meters category along with Ali Fahimi and Moslem Niadoust.
For the longest distance Jalil Nasseri, Hossein Keyhani and Homayoun Nemati are the endurance runners in the 3000 meters category.
Ali Samari is the only member in the shot put category. From among Shahin Mehrdelan, Shahin Jafari and Mohammad-Hossein Eskandari two will join Samari after their extended evaluation during the training sessions of the national squad.
Shot put is a track and field event involving ‘throwing/putting’ (throwing in a pushing motion) a heavy spherical object called ‘shot’, as far as possible. The shot put competition for men has been a part of modern Olympics since 1896, and women’s competition began in 1948.
Mohammad Bani-Adam and Hossein Fallah are in the pole vault competitions, which has been a full medal event at the Olympic Games since 1896 for men and 2000 for women.
High jumpers Keyvan Qanbarzadeh, Mohammad-Reza Vazifeh-Doust and Reza Salimi are three members in the high jump division.
In high jump competitors must jump unaided over a horizontal bar placed at measured heights without dislodging it.
Among three triple jumpers, Vahid Seddiq has been chosen and two other members will be selected from among Matin Maddahi, Amir Hezami, Mehdi Tammari and Hamid-Reza Kia.
To make a triple jump, the competitor runs down the track and performs a hop, skip and a jump into the sand pit. It has been a modern Olympics event since the games’ inception in 1896.
In the long jump category, Alireza Khaledi, Mohammad Ghaedzadeh and Mohammad Arzandeh will test their skills.
Members of the heptathlon delegation have not been announced.
Aftab-e Enqelab Sports Complex will host the 8th Asian Indoor Athletics Championships.
