Iran Bags Five Medals at Karate1 Premier League

Men and women karatekas won one silver and four bronze medals at the World Karate1 Premier League in Dubai on February 18.

In the second round of the games 37 karatekas from Iran attended but only five won medals, IRNA reported.

In the final match of the -84kg in individual kumite, Ali Fadakar lost to the Egyptian contender and took silver.

Hamideh Abassali won the bronze medal in the individual female -68kg kumite by defeating Spanish practitioner. She lost the quarterfinal match but as her rival stepped into the finals, Abassali went to repecharge division to fight for the bronze.

Amir-Reza Mirzaei and Ali-Asghar Asiabari won bronze at individual Kumite categories of male -67kg and -75kg weight classes respectively. In the male individual kata category, Abolfazl Shahrjerdi also won bronze.

The UAE event is second of a 7-round worldwide tournament that is of great importance for the karatekas around the globe. The points of the event will be considered in the Olympic and world rankings.

Initiated in 2011 with two tournaments held in Paris and Istanbul, the Karate1 Premier League has made exponential progress in terms of magnitude and status of the tournaments as well as the number of participants and countries represented.

First round of the games was held in Paris, January 26-28. Rotterdam, Rabat, Istanbul, Berlin and Tokyo will host the later rounds during the year respectively.
